Yet I haven't bothered to read realistic fiction set in these times. This is a wonderful book. It suddenly goes from how Meriwether finally arrives "in the Eternal City safe and sound," to how he and his brother were arrested and taken to Oloron, to be accused of being German Spies. Then he fell in love with a titled lady and his career and life were put in jeopardy. I wish there were more books in this series. The illustrations have a unique feel to them. In developing countries like India and Pakistan, divorced wives, may not be remarried again and honur killing is often the rule; but the husbands who tolerate the infidelities find themselves deprived and their time and money get exploited by the guests, invited by the spouse.
